Blockbuster: Chelsea & Aston Villa Agree £117m Morgan Rogers Transfer
Chelsea have reached a verbal agreement with Aston Villa to sign winger Morgan Rogers for a reported club-record fee of £117 million, and the player has a six-year contract with a one-year option lined up, The Athletic’s David Ornstein reports. The transfer is described as “still being finalised,” and Rogers’ medical is scheduled for Monday, July 20, 2026.
Sources say the deal sees Chelsea beat other suitors, including Premier League champions Arsenal, who had been linked with Rogers after he indicated he wanted to leave Villa. The reported fee is more than £10 million higher than the sum paid for Enzo Fernández three years ago, underlining the scale of Chelsea’s investment. Aston Villa, meanwhile, are said to be signing World Cup breakout forward Joseph Manzambi for about £50m.
Rogers, 23 and soon to turn 24, rose through the West Brom academy before joining Manchester City’s setup at 17. Seeking first-team football, he moved to Middlesbrough and later to Aston Villa, where he established himself, enjoyed a breakthrough season and earned England caps. He provided the assist for England’s only goal in their World Cup semi-final defeat to Argentina earlier this week.
The 2025 Premier League Young Player of the Year will join a Stamford Bridge squad that already features Cole Palmer, promising a new left-right attacking partnership that supporters hope will pay dividends. While the deal appears largely agreed in principle, Chelsea’s signing of Rogers remains conditional on the completion of medical checks and final paperwork.
