Students’ NSF Urges MHA Advisor: Swift End to Naga Peace Talks
The Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) on Thursday, July 16, urged the Centre to pursue the ongoing Naga peace talks with sincerity and to work toward an early, logical conclusion, during a delegation meeting with Ajit Lal, Advisor (Northeast) to the Ministry of Home Affairs, in New Delhi. The appeal, the federation said, sought a swift political settlement to the decades‑old Naga issue while preserving confidence in the process.
According to a statement issued by the NSF, the delegation stressed that negotiations must remain sensitive to the aspirations and sentiments of the Naga people and avoid measures that could undermine trust. The student body framed an early political resolution as essential for durable peace and regional stability.
The NSF also raised alarm over continuing violence and unrest in the region, singling out the Naga‑Kuki conflict as a pressing concern. The delegation called for the immediate restoration of peace and normalcy and reiterated the federation’s longstanding demand for an expedited settlement of the political question.
Ajit Lal, who is also a former Special Director of the Intelligence Bureau, received the delegation’s concerns and assured the NSF that the issues raised would be examined, the statement added.
The meeting underscores civilian pressure on the government to advance talks with urgency and sensitivity, and reflects local civil society’s insistence that any final arrangement address community sentiments to secure lasting peace.
