NSF Demands Urgent Peace Talks on Naga-Kuki Conflict with MHA Advisor
New Delhi, July 16, 2026 — A delegation of the Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) on Thursday met Ajit Lal, Advisor (North East) to the Ministry of Home Affairs, urging the Centre to expedite the ongoing Naga peace process and restore calm in the region. The delegation stressed that the situation required immediate action to halt violence and unrest, particularly in areas affected by the Naga‑Kuki conflict.
During the meeting, the NSF briefed Lal — a former Special Director of the Intelligence Bureau — on the prevailing law-and-order challenges and the humanitarian impact of recent clashes. The students’ body said it pressed for swift steps to re-establish normalcy and protect civilians caught up in the tensions.
The delegation appealed to the MHA advisor to carry forward the peace talks “with sincerity” and to steer negotiations toward an early and logical conclusion, while remaining sensitive to the aspirations and concerns of the Naga people, the NSF said. It emphasised that any negotiated solution must acknowledge local sentiments and political demands.
According to the NSF, the meeting reaffirmed a collective call for a political resolution to the decades‑old Naga issue rather than a purely security-driven approach. The students’ federation described the demand as central to long-term stability in the Northeast.
Lal listened to the delegation’s concerns and, the NSF said, assured them the matter would be looked into. The meeting signals continued civilian pressure on officials to accelerate talks and find a lasting political settlement.
