Assam Government Proposes Bold Hanging Gardens on Guwahati Flyovers
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Thursday the state government plans to create hanging gardens on flyovers in Guwahati to beautify the city and add more green public spaces. Announcing the proposal during a Facebook Live session, Sarma said the hanging gardens would integrate greenery into the city’s expanding infrastructure as part of a broader urban development push aimed at improving Guwahati’s aesthetic appeal and promoting a cleaner environment.
Sarma described the scheme as one element of the state’s wider efforts to upgrade urban infrastructure while making public spaces more attractive and environmentally friendly. He said the design and placement of the gardens will be coordinated with ongoing flyover projects to ensure they complement traffic and safety requirements.
The chief minister also used the live interaction to review the monsoon flood situation in Assam, saying the state has so far largely avoided severe flooding this season. He noted that only parts of Lakhimpur and Dhemaji continue to face flood-related problems and that the administration is providing relief to affected residents.
“The government stands firmly with the affected people and is ensuring that all required assistance reaches them,” Sarma said, underlining the administration’s commitment to relief operations. He added that officials are closely monitoring flood conditions while continuing infrastructure and urban development projects across the state.
