Manipur DGP Orders Swift Anti-Extortion Crackdown in Noney
Manipur Director General of Police Mukesh Singh on July 7 directed officers to step up action against extortion and to hasten the investigation and disposal of pending cases during a review of policing and security arrangements in Noney district. Singh visited the Noney District Police Headquarters to assess the district’s law and order situation, crime trends and the operational readiness of local police units.
According to a police statement, Singh told officers that maintaining public order and strengthening anti‑extortion operations were top priorities. He urged that pending cases be resolved quickly and through thorough, quality investigations, stressing the need for the “prompt investigation and disposal of pending cases.” Officers were asked to remain proactive in curbing extortion activities.
Singh later inspected the CRPF camp at Lamdangmei to evaluate security in the district’s fringe areas and chaired a coordination meeting with commanding officers of the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) deployed in Noney. The review placed special emphasis on security along National Highway‑37, with particular focus on safeguarding the Imphal‑Jiribam route to ensure the uninterrupted movement of essential commodities.
Meeting representatives of Noney’s civil society, the DGP assured the district police’s full cooperation and appealed for continued public support to maintain law and order and promote lasting peace, the statement added.
