Heartening Rescue in Nagaland: Slow Loris Released in Zunheboto
Dimapur: A resident of Sukhalu village in Zunheboto district rescued an endangered Slow Loris on Saturday and handed the animal to the Zunheboto District Tourism Association, the association said. After consulting with local authorities, the association released the rescued Slow Loris into its natural habitat at the Sukhai biodiversity conservation area, prioritising the animal’s welfare while supporting ongoing conservation efforts in the district.
The association commended rescuer Nihoto K. Yepthomi and the people of Sukhalu for their responsible action and commitment to protecting wildlife. It said the community’s prompt response helped ensure the animal received appropriate care and was returned safely to the wild.
Officials stressed the importance of community participation in conserving the region’s rich biodiversity and urged residents to report sightings of injured, distressed, or displaced wildlife to the proper authorities or conservation organisations instead of attempting to keep wild animals as pets.
“Collective efforts by local communities play a vital role in safeguarding Nagaland’s unique wildlife heritage for future generations,” the association said, calling for continued public cooperation in wildlife protection.
