Assam: Sushanta Borgohain Inspects Dibrugarh Development & Welfare
Sushanta Borgohain, Assam’s Water Resources Minister and Guardian Minister for Dibrugarh, on Wednesday chaired a high-level review meeting in Dibrugarh to assess the progress of ongoing development projects and the implementation of key government welfare schemes in the district. He directed officials to ensure timely completion of all works and urged that schemes be made more people-centric so benefits reach eligible beneficiaries efficiently and without leakages.
The meeting, held at the office of the Dibrugarh District Commissioner, concentrated on both the physical and financial progress of projects across departments. Officials were asked to fast-track lagging works and improve monitoring to prevent delays and resource leakages.
Departmental representatives offered updates on infrastructure and welfare initiatives, highlighting road development, drinking water supply, healthcare, education and rural livelihood programmes. The Health and Water Resources departments reported progress in upgrading primary health centres and expanding drinking-water coverage in remote areas, while the Public Works Department outlined plans and ongoing work on road repairs, maintenance and rural connectivity.
The review was attended by Cabinet Minister Bimal Borah, Dibrugarh Deputy Commissioner Bikram Kairi and senior department officials. Rajya Sabha MP Terash Gowala and MLAs Prasanta Phukan (Dibrugarh), Chakradhar Gogoi (Khowang), Binod Hazarika (Chabua-Lahowal) and Taranga Gogoi (Naharkatia) also participated.
Officials discussed district-specific challenges including flood mitigation, riverbank erosion control, drainage improvement and strengthening local market infrastructure. The meeting reviewed measures to improve disaster preparedness and accelerate infrastructure development to better serve residents.
