Tura Political Party Alert: SIR’s Urgent Appeal Shakes Community
Officials in Tura held a briefing on June 30 for Booth Level Officers (BLOs) on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral roll, with sessions at the West Garo Hills District Election Office and at the DRDA Conference Hall. The programme, aimed at preparing BLOs for the SIR process, covered enumeration procedures and the correct completion of enumeration forms, and was attended by senior election officials and representatives of political parties.
West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer Vibhor Aggarwal, Electoral Roll Observer Rikse R Marak, EROs and AEROs were present during the briefing to oversee preparations and explain administrative responsibilities to BLOs. The sessions focused on procedural clarity so that enumerators can accurately record and verify entries during the SIR exercise.
Officials urged political parties to formally appoint Booth Level Agents (BLAs) to participate in the SIR at the booth level. The administration said BLAs would be able to observe the revision process, raise queries or objections where appropriate, and ensure that party representatives can follow the exercise at their assigned polling stations.
Electoral Roll Observer Rikse R Marak emphasised that EROs and AEROs will rigorously verify names and entries during the Special Intensive Revision to maintain the accuracy and integrity of the roll. He underlined the need for careful checking of forms and documentation to prevent errors or omissions.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (Election I/c) Nipon Hajong said the District Election Department will extend full support to conduct the SIR smoothly and called on all BLOs and BLAs to cooperate with officials throughout the exercise. Hajong reiterated that coordinated action between election staff and party agents is essential for an effective revision.
The SIR exercise is intended to update and authenticate the electoral roll by verifying existing entries and addressing additions, deletions or corrections as needed. The administration’s briefing on June 30 was framed to ensure that field officers and party nominees carry out the work transparently and in accordance with prescribed procedures.
