England Unbeaten as West Indies Advance in ICC Women’s T20 2026
Ireland completed a landmark victory over the West Indies, chasing down the target with calm finishing by Rebecca Stokell and Louise Little after a decisive middle-order stand. The match swung in Ireland’s favour thanks to a 62-run partnership in 53 balls between Orla Prendergast and Amy Hunter, which effectively put the visitors beyond reach.
Prendergast led the charge, continuing her strong form with a measured 63, punctuated by eight fours and two sixes. Hunter contributed 28 in the partnership, steering Ireland into a position from which the required runs looked attainable.
The chase had an early wobble when captain Gaby Lewis departed, but Prendergast and Hunter steadied the innings and shifted momentum away from the West Indies. Their attack-minded batting quelled the pressure built by the home side’s bowlers.
A later setback came when Matthews was caught in the deep by Deandra Dottin, a moment that briefly echoed Ireland’s nervy four-run defeat to New Zealand earlier in the tournament. That memory, however, did not define the finish.
Stokell and Little held their nerve in the closing stages to see Ireland over the line. Louise Little sealed the win with a boundary off Aaliyah Alleyne, sparking celebrations for a well-earned result.
