Smart Morning Food Choices That Shape Long-Term Health
Nutrition experts say simple, sustainable morning eating habits can set the tone for long-term health, urging people to prioritise a balanced first meal amid busy urban routines. At a recent interactive wellness session in Pune organised by the Almond Board of California, specialists from Max Healthcare and AIIMS, Delhi, highlighted that small, repeatable choices — including adding almonds to breakfast or a morning snack — can improve energy, concentration and overall diet quality.
Ritika Samaddar, Regional Head of Dietetics at Max Healthcare, said the most successful nutrition routines are the ones people can follow consistently. “Starting the day with wholesome foods and making mindful choices, such as including almonds as part of a balanced breakfast or morning snack, can help people stay on track with their overall wellness goals,” she said, stressing that simple habits sustained over time make the biggest difference.
Monita Gahlot, dietician at AIIMS, Delhi, underlined the role of the first meal in supporting metabolism and daily functioning. She warned that fast-paced lifestyles often push people to skip breakfast or choose convenient but nutritionally poor options, which can erode nutrient intake over time. “Establishing simple and sustainable morning routines that include nutrient-rich foods such as protein-rich foods, whole grains, fruits, and healthy fats can help individuals meet their nutritional requirements, make better dietary choices throughout the day, and support long-term wellness,” Gahlot said, adding that consistency in meal timing and quality often matters more than fad diets.
The Pune session, titled ‘Har Subah Ki Super Shuruat: California Almonds ke 24 Nutrients ke Saath’, was moderated by Samaddar and hosted by radio personality RJ Utsavi. Actress Urmila Kanetkar and influencers Sakshi Agarwal, Shilpa Meher and Harsha Khatri joined the discussion to share practical perspectives on fitting healthy habits into busy days.
Kanetkar said consistency is key to sustaining wellness: mornings, she said, are about small, positive rituals — whether taking a moment for oneself or choosing nourishing foods — and almonds are an easy addition to many routines. Anjali Bhola, senior dietician at AIIMS, Delhi, recommended routines that prioritise nutrient- and protein-rich morning foods and regular hydration. “The focus should be on creating realistic habits of eating small frequent nutrient-rich foods, drinking 2–2.5 litres of water per day helping individuals maintain good health over the long term,” she said.
Experts agreed that lasting improvements come less from drastic dietary shifts than from manageable daily actions: planning balanced breakfasts, staying hydrated and incorporating nutrient-dense foods into everyday routines to boost energy, productivity and overall well‑being. (PTI)
