CM Flags Off Life-Saving Ambulances for Pakyong District
Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang‑Golay on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, flagged off a fleet of ambulances destined for Pakyong District, a move aimed at strengthening emergency medical response and healthcare access in the region. The vehicles, handed over in Gangtok, were funded under Indian Oil Corporation Limited’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme and facilitated through the efforts of Rajya Sabha MP D.T. Lepcha, according to a CMO press release.
The flag‑off was attended by Rajya Sabha MP D.T. Lepcha, Ajay Kumar Wazir, CSR head of Oil India Limited, Kolkata, and representatives of the WE Foundation, alongside officials from the district administration and the state healthcare department. The collaboration between the MP, corporate donors and local authorities underlines a public–private approach to improving health services in remote areas.
The ambulances will be deployed across Pakyong District to reduce response times and improve transport for patients needing urgent care. The Chief Minister welcomed the contribution and stressed the need to bolster healthcare infrastructure, particularly in rural and hard‑to‑reach communities, to ensure timely treatment and better health outcomes.
Expressing gratitude to MP D.T. Lepcha and Indian Oil Corporation Limited, the Chief Minister said the donation would play a vital role in strengthening the district’s health system. The CMO release noted that the programme reflects ongoing efforts to expand emergency medical capacity through targeted CSR initiatives and local coordination.
