Bengaluru Court Orders Google & Meta to Remove Pawan Kalyan Posts
A Bengaluru court has ordered social media companies X Corp, Google LLC and Meta to prevent the circulation of content alleged to target Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister and Janasena Party president Konidala Pawan Kalyan. The directive, issued on June 11 by XVI Additional City Civil and Sessions Judge Mohammed Moinuddin, expands an earlier ad interim injunction granted on June 10 and arises from a suit Kalyan filed against the three technology firms and unnamed individuals listed as John Doe defendants.
According to the court order, the platforms and persons acting through them are restrained from sharing or making available the disputed material. “Defendant No.1 to 3 and all persons claiming through them including their servants, agents are hereby directed not to publish, republish, broadcast, transmit, upload or display any statement, article or allegations, videos against the Plaintiff,” the order states.
The legal action follows controversy over allegations of lake and public land encroachment in Janwada, Telangana, which prompted criticism and discussion on social media. The contested material, the court noted, includes articles, videos and statements carrying several allegations, including claims related to encroachment of water bodies and public land.
Senior advocate Dr Arun Shyam M represented Kalyan before the trial court. After the June 10 injunction, Kalyan sought a modification to explicitly cover certain internet links and URLs where he said the material was being hosted. While considering that plea, the judge said expanding the earlier order was necessary to ensure the injunction had practical effect.
As a result, the court partly modified its previous ruling and brought the specific links identified by Kalyan within the scope of the injunction. The suit names the major platforms and unidentified online actors, and the court’s restraint is aimed at preventing further dissemination while the matter proceeds.
The case is listed for further hearing on July 24, 2026.
