India Delivers Another 5 Tonnes of Lifesaving Medicines to Afghanistan
Kabul/New Delhi, June 17: India on Wednesday delivered another 5 tonnes of essential medicines to Kabul, reinforcing its ongoing humanitarian support for Afghanistan and signalling continued commitment to the welfare of the Afghan people. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson, Randhir Jaiswal, posted on X: “India delivers another 5 tonnes of essential medicines to Kabul, reaffirming its enduring commitment to humanitarian assistance and the well-being of the Afghan people.”
The consignment is part of a sustained Indian effort to supply medicines and other aid to Afghanistan. Last week the MEA reiterated New Delhi’s support for peace, stability and development in Afghanistan and the wider region, while highlighting long-standing civilisational links between the two countries.
At a weekly media briefing in New Delhi, Jaiswal cited India’s statement at a United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) briefing. He noted that India and Afghanistan are contiguous neighbours and “as civilisational states, our ties have spanned centuries,” adding that New Delhi stands for peace and stability in the region to foster development. Jaiswal also referred to India’s ongoing development cooperation in areas such as food security, medicines, pharmaceutical support and health.
Earlier, on May 22, India delivered 20 tonnes of dry materials for Bacillus Calmette–Guérin (BCG) and Tetanus & Diphtheria (Td) vaccines to Kabul to bolster child immunisation efforts. The MEA posted on X: “India delivers 20 tonnes of critical dry materials for BCG and Tetanus & Diphtheria (Td) vaccines to Kabul to augment Afghanistan’s Child Immunisation Programme. More consignments are underway. India is committed to support the friendly people of Afghanistan in the health sector.”
