Manipur Violence: KNF Denies Role, Calls Allegations Baseless
Guwahati: The Kuki National Front (KNF) on June 13, 2026, issued a strong denial of media reports linking the group to recent violence in Manipur, accusing sections of the media and social media commentators of running a sustained campaign of misinformation.
In its press release, the KNF said it “has been constantly accused” of involvement in attacks on civilians, inter-village clashes and other hostile incidents across the state, but categorically rejected any role in the alleged attacks on Loibol Khullen, Kultuh and Langka villages. The group also denied participation in reported retaliatory violence, including claims of abduction and killings in Kuki-inhabited areas.
Describing the accusations as “baseless and factually void,” the KNF singled out certain media houses, political actors and civil society voices for circulating unverified claims that, it said, are aggravating tensions in an already volatile situation.
The organisation further alleged that unrest in the hill areas is being “engineered” to disrupt ongoing political dialogue between Kuki-Zo representatives and the Government of India, particularly talks linked to the Suspension of Operations (SoO) framework.
Reiterating its commitment to a political settlement, the KNF said it seeks to resolve the long-standing issue of the Kuki-Zo people through dialogue and not by military means. It added that village volunteers in Kuki areas have been active since the outbreak of ethnic conflict in 2023 to protect local communities and property.
The statement accused opponents of trying to “malign” the KNF’s image and derail peace efforts, calling such narratives politically motivated. The group urged media organisations to verify facts before reporting and appealed for restraint in sharing unconfirmed information, saying that “truth must prevail over misinformation.”
