Join the Countdown: International Day of Yoga 2026 — Pangthang, Sikkim
As part of the countdown to International Day of Yoga 2026 under the theme “Yoga for Healthy Aging,” the Department of AYUSH, Government of Sikkim, through AYUSH medical officers from the 10‑bedded AYUSH Hospital in Gangtok, held a Yoga and wellness outreach at the Sikkim Armed Police Training Headquarters (SAPTHQ) in Pangthang. The programme combined a group Yoga session, mass registration for a national record attempt, clinical consultations, and therapeutic services to promote fitness and healthy aging among security personnel.
A one‑hour Yoga session drew 130 officers, staff and jawans and focused on improving physical fitness, stress management, resilience, and practices that support healthy aging. During the event, organisers conducted mass enrolment for the HABUILD Guinness World Record attempt — an initiative of the Ministry of AYUSH aimed at securing the highest number of online Yoga participants.
Clinical and lifestyle services were offered alongside the group practice. Seventy‑eight personnel received consultations in Yoga and naturopathy that included lifestyle counselling for prevention and management of non‑communicable diseases, stress reduction techniques, sleep optimisation, dietary guidance, and holistic health promotion.
Therapeutic care was provided to 60 participants by AYUSH medical officers trained in Yoga and naturopathy. Interventions included acupuncture (electro and moxibustion), physical manipulation, myofascial fire cupping therapy, therapeutic exercises, individualised Yoga therapy, and naturopathy‑based treatments targeting pain management, musculoskeletal complaints, occupational stress, and other lifestyle‑related health issues.
The outreach successfully integrated preventive healthcare, lifestyle medicine, therapeutic interventions and group Yoga under a single platform, demonstrating a coordinated approach to wellbeing for a working, operational population. By bringing evidence‑informed, non‑pharmacological services to a state institution, the Department of AYUSH reinforced its commitment to accessible, holistic healthcare across Sikkim.
Organisers said the initiative underlines the role of AYUSH systems in promoting healthy aging, disease prevention and operational fitness, while improving overall quality of life for participants through combined clinical and community‑based interventions.
