Guwahati Arrest: Woman Drug Peddler Nabbed, 7kg Ganja Seized
A team from the East Guwahati Police District’s Basistha Police Station arrested an alleged drug peddler and seized 7 kilograms of ganja, a mobile phone and Rs 1,100 during a raid at a hideout in Beharbari, police said.
Acting on specific intelligence inputs, officers apprehended 40-year-old Fatima Begum, a resident of Beharbari. The contraband and other items were recovered from her possession at the scene.
Police have initiated legal proceedings against the accused and said further investigations are underway to determine whether the seizure connects to a wider trafficking network.
The latest operation forms part of a series of anti-drug actions carried out by the Assam Police and the East Guwahati Police District in recent months, resulting in multiple arrests and significant narcotics seizures across the state.
Officials said the intensified drive aims to disrupt local supply chains and dismantle organised networks that fuel drug peddling and trafficking in the region.
Law enforcement sources described the sustained campaign as evidence of the government’s commitment to tackling the drug menace, while investigators continue to follow leads from the latest seizure.
