Four Arrested in Assam’s Nagaon Over Alleged Dog Theft and Trafficking
Four alleged dog thieves were arrested by Samaguri Police during a late-night operation on June 11 in Nagaon district, Assam, after officers say they intercepted suspects who were reportedly trying to move stolen animals across state lines. Police described the arrests as part of a targeted operation to disrupt an alleged dog-theft and trafficking ring.
According to police sources, the accused were allegedly involved in stealing dogs from several localities, including Samaguri and Puranigudam. Officers say the suspects were preparing to transport the animals to other states when they were intercepted.
The four people apprehended in the Gardmow area of Puranigudam have been identified as Ganiram Ronghang, Dorsing Terang, Sarhan Tokbi and Babi Ronghang. All four were taken into custody at the scene, police said.
During the operation, authorities seized a luxury vehicle that they allege was being used to transport the stolen dogs, along with several items suspected to have been used in the thefts and trafficking activities. Police have not disclosed further details about the seized items pending the investigation.
The accused have been formally arrested and remanded to judicial custody. Samaguri Police said the investigation is ongoing as they work to determine the full extent of the alleged trafficking network and whether additional suspects are involved.
