President Presents Kirti Chakra to Capt Sailo in Guwahati Tribute
Capt. Lalrinawma Sailo, 27, an officer of the 4 PARA (Special Forces) battalion, was presented the Kirti Chakra by President Droupadi Murmu at the Defence Investiture Ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi on Monday. The award recognises his exceptional courage and leadership during a high-risk counter‑terrorism operation.
The Kirti Chakra for Capt. Sailo was announced on August 15, 2025. The citation cited “exceptional courage, conspicuous bravery and selfless devotion to duty” in peacetime, prompting the decoration at the investiture ceremony.
Capt. Sailo was honoured for his actions as Assault Team Commander during Operation Sindoor, a counter‑terrorism mission launched to avenge a previous terror strike in Pahalgam. His unit penetrated a fortified terrorist base in Jammu and Kashmir to engage the militants.
Under his battlefield leadership, the commandos neutralised the senior terrorist leadership and their planned targets during a 58‑second close‑quarter engagement, according to the official account of the operation.
A native of the Chanmari locality in Aizawl, Capt. Sailo is the first commissioned Army officer from Mizoram to be conferred the Kirti Chakra and the second gallantry award recipient from the state; Subedar Chalhnuna Lushai of the Assam Regiment received the honour in 1968.
Capt. Sailo is an alumnus of Rashtriya Indian Military College (RIMC), the National Defence Academy (NDA) and the Indian Military Academy (IMA). His decoration highlights both his personal resolve and the role of elite Special Forces units in high‑intensity counter‑terrorism operations.
