Alert: BSF, Police Seize Yaba Tablets Worth ₹50 Lakh Near Dharmanagar
Agartala, June 6, 2026 — Security forces in North Tripura intercepted a large consignment of banned Yaba tablets before it could be trafficked across the international border, seizing 9,427 tablets in a joint operation by the Border Security Force and Dharmanagar Police near the Raghna International Checkpost.
Acting on information from the 97th Battalion BSF camp, Dharmanagar Police launched a coordinated search on Saturday. Officers found 48 abandoned packets close to the barbed-wire fencing; when opened, the packets yielded a total of 9,427 Yaba tablets.
Police and BSF sources said the consignment appears to have been stockpiled for smuggling into Bangladesh. Preliminary inquiries indicate traffickers likely abandoned the load after detecting increased security activity in the area. The seized consignment has been taken into custody at Dharmanagar Police Station, and an investigation has been launched to identify those responsible.
Authorities estimate the tablets’ black-market value at roughly ₹50 lakh. Following the recovery, border security measures in the sector have been further tightened and patrols intensified to prevent similar attempts.
The seizure has raised concerns across the border districts about ongoing narcotics trafficking and underscores the importance of intelligence-led operations and coordination between the BSF and local police in disrupting cross-border smuggling networks.
