মৰমৰ দেউতা: হৃদয়স্পৰ্শী স্মৃতি আৰু অনুপ্ৰাণিত শিক্ষা
Himjyoti Talukdar’s new film Moromor Deuta, adapted from Dr. Bhavendra Nath Shaikia’s novel and produced by Mamata Mohilary, opened on May 15, 2026, and is currently playing in cinemas across Assam. Written for the screen by Talukdar, Shantanu Raumuria and Abhishek Dutta, the film tackles a tense family drama but ultimately falls short of its potential: a strong source novel and promising premise are undermined by sluggish pacing, weak editing and an underused cast.
The story begins with high-tension sequences and shifts into flashbacks that reveal a small household-a mother, father, son and daughter-marked from the outset by anxiety. The mother works away from home, and the family’s unrest centers on the son, Partha, who repeatedly mentally torments his mother and at times physically abuses his father. A worsening crisis prompts the father to summon the mother home; what follows forms the core of the film.
Talukdar’s film benefits from a thoughtful, affecting premise and several early scenes where the narrative flows smoothly. However, once the mother’s character returns, the screenplay loses momentum. Scenes that should build emotional intensity feel muted, and the film rarely generates the affective response its subject demands. The result is a work that is watchable in parts but never fully engaging.
Performances show promise but are constrained by the script. Bodhisattva Sharma’s portrayal of Partha is natural, though it leaves room for greater depth; Mintu Baruah’s role similarly hints at more than it delivers. Greater focus on the relationships-particularly between Partha, Aparna Dutta Chowdhury’s character and Mintu Baruah’s-could have amplified the film’s emotional stakes and strengthened the final act.
Technically, the background score often fails to support the drama, and the editing weakens narrative drive. In short, Moromor Deuta is a faithful adaptation in spirit but not in impact: a beautiful story that, on screen, does not fully come alive.
