Agartala: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday, May 28, 2026, appointed Tripura MLA Abhishek Debroy as president of its state unit, a key organisational change in the party’s state leadership. The move was announced from Agartala and formalises a leadership transition within BJP Tripura.
Debroy represents the Matarbari Assembly constituency in Gomati district and has been a BJP legislator since 2023. His elevation to state president places him at the centre of the party’s organisational strategy in Tripura.
Following the announcement, Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha publicly congratulated Debroy. In a social media post on May 28, 2026, Saha wrote: “Heartiest congratulations to Abhishek Debroy ji on being appointed as the president of BJP Tripura Pradesh. Confident that under his dynamic leadership and organisational vision, the party will grow stronger and continue working dedicatedly for the welfare of Tripura’s people.”
Chief Minister Saha has recently met Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP national president Nitin Navin, and other party leaders to discuss organisational issues, education reforms and the overall development agenda for the state, according to the party’s account of those meetings.
Debroy succeeds Rajib Bhattacharjee, who had served as state BJP president since 2022. Bhattacharjee, a party worker since 1991, held several organisational positions over the years and was elected to the Rajya Sabha in 2024 following his tenure as state chief.
The appointment signals a fresh organisational phase for BJP Tripura, with party leaders expressing confidence that the new leadership will strengthen the party’s work and focus on welfare and development priorities in the state.
