Minister Sudhangshu Das Demands Collective Protection for Go-Mata
Agartala, 27 May 2026 — Tripura’s ARD, Fisheries and SC Welfare Minister Sudhangshu Das on Wednesday urged the state administration to intensify enforcement to curb cow slaughter across the state, calling for stronger action to protect cattle considered sacred by many.
“I earnestly request the administration to take even stricter measures to put an end to cow slaughter across various parts of the state of Tripura,” Das said, appealing directly to officials to step up monitoring and intervention where needed.
Highlighting the cow’s cultural and religious importance, the minister said the animal is revered in Hindu tradition. “In Hinduism, the cow is honored as Go-Mata-or Mother Cow-a reverence rooted in a number of profound reasons and religious beliefs,” he said, stressing the symbolic value that informs his appeal.
Das also called for collective responsibility in safeguarding this tradition. “Therefore, let us all join hands to ensure the protection of Go-Mata,” he added, urging communities and authorities to work together.
The minister’s remarks come amid ongoing debates in the region over animal protection and religious sentiments, and underscore the government’s stated focus on stricter monitoring and enforcement of existing laws related to cattle protection. The appeal is likely to shape local discussions on enforcement, animal protection, and communal sensitivities in Tripura.
