Rajashri Roy of Sribhumi district in Assam successfully reached the summit of Mount Renk — a 5,030-metre (about 16,500-foot) peak — on the morning of May 18 at approximately 10:30 AM, becoming the first cadet from the 4 Assam Battalion, NCC (National Cadet Corps) to accomplish this feat. The ascent marks a historic milestone for the battalion and for Rajashri personally.
Battalion officials said Rajashri completed the climb despite bitterly cold conditions and the severe challenges posed by rugged mountain terrain. During the ascent she suffered injuries attributed to extreme cold, but her determination and focus kept her moving until she reached the final objective.
According to the 4 Assam Battalion, Rajashri’s success reflects the courage, discipline, physical fitness and mental resilience forged through rigorous NCC training. Officers highlighted her endurance, leadership and composure under pressure as particularly noteworthy qualities displayed during the expedition.
The battalion described the achievement as a proud moment that brings honour to their unit and is likely to inspire fellow cadets to take on demanding adventures with commitment and confidence. All officers and staff of the 4 Assam Battalion have offered their heartfelt congratulations.
Formal post-ascent procedures are underway, including official ceremonies and medical care for the injuries Rajashri sustained. Battalion spokespeople expressed best wishes for her future career and said they will continue to support her recovery and professional development.
