PM Modi Hands Over 51,000+ Appointment Letters — Recruits Celebrate
New Delhi, May 23: More than 51,000 appointment letters were handed out nationwide on Saturday as Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually distributed letters at the 19th Rozgar Mela, an employment-generation drive organised simultaneously at 47 locations across India. Newly appointed candidates from Delhi, Punjab, West Bengal, Odisha and other states expressed gratitude and said the event marked a major milestone in their careers.
At Patiala Locomotive Works (PLW) in Punjab, 188 candidates received appointment letters, distributed locally by Principal Chief Administrative Officer Sushil Kumar Srivastava. Of these, 126 will serve in various trades at PLW. Srivastava congratulated the recruits and urged them to work with dedication, honesty and integrity for nation-building and the progress of Indian Railways.
Candidates at several venues praised the recruitment process as transparent and merit-based. “Prime Minister Modi’s speech was very inspiring and motivating. We worked hard for this moment, and our families also made many sacrifices. I am extremely happy today,” one recruit told IANS. Palak, who said she applied in 2024 and hails from Uttar Pradesh, added, “I am grateful to Prime Minister Modi for this opportunity.” Ritika Dutta of West Bengal said she was selected “purely on merit.”
In Kolkata, the Rozgar Mela at Dr B.C. Roy Auditorium in Sealdah saw 188 appointment letters distributed in the presence of senior railway officials and political leaders, including West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari and Union Minister of State Sukanta Majumdar. Kaushik Singh, appointed as a junior engineer in the electrical department, called it “a new beginning,” while fellow recruit Tamalpal said he was proud to serve Indian Railways.
The programme in Siliguri, held at NJP Kashmir Colony, featured 81 appointment letters and was attended by Jalpaiguri MP Jayanta Roy, Siliguri MLA Shikha Chatterjee, Matigara-Naxalbari MLA Anandamoy Barman, Phansidewa MLA Durga Murmu and Union MoS for Rural Development Kamlesh Paswan, along with senior railway officials from Katihar Division.
In Kharagpur, about 142 appointment letters were distributed at the Multi-Disciplinary Zonal Training Institute/Supervisors’ Training Centre, with Union MoS for Ports, Shipping and Waterways Shantanu Thakur and West Bengal minister Dilip Ghosh among those congratulating recruits. In Bhubaneswar, several youths said they felt honoured by the Prime Minister’s virtual interaction; Union Minister Jual Oram, who attended the event, praised the Centre’s push for large-scale youth employment.
Organisers said the Rozgar Mela aims to connect qualified youth with government job opportunities across ministries and departments, and candidates at the various events reiterated their belief that selections were awarded on merit without recommendations or bribery.
