African Swine Fever Confirmed in Dimapur: Containment Zones Declared
Reported by Bhadra Gogoi. Dimapur: Dimapur Deputy Commissioner Tinojongshi Chang on May 20 declared parts of Dimapur an African Swine Fever (ASF) infected and surveillance zone after laboratory confirmation of ASF-positive pigs at Signal Angami village.
The notification designates a 1 km radius from the infected site in Signal Angami as the infected zone and a 10 km radius as the surveillance zone. The order imposes an immediate and complete ban on the movement of pigs and piglets from both the infected and surveillance zones to non-infected areas.
The district administration also prohibited the movement of pigs, pork, pig feed, carcasses and other pig-related products into or out of the infected and surveillance zones. Slaughter, sale, transportation and any congregation of pigs within the infected area are suspended until further orders.
Pig farmers and local residents have been urged to report any unusual sickness or sudden deaths of pigs to the nearest veterinary officer or the veterinary department without delay. All pig farm owners have been directed to enforce strict biosecurity measures, including regular disinfection and restricted access to farms.
Disposal of pig carcasses will follow veterinary department protocols and Government of India guidelines. The veterinary department, supported by law enforcement agencies, will carry out surveillance and monitoring in the affected areas.
The Deputy Commissioner warned that any violation of the order would invite legal action under the relevant provisions of law.
