68th APO Governing Body Session in India: Must-Know Outcomes
India is hosting the 68th Session of the Asian Productivity Organisation (APO) Governing Body at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi from May 20 to 22, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry said Wednesday. The three-day meeting, held while India serves as APO Chair, will bring together more than 60 senior delegates from 20 APO member economies to discuss regional productivity priorities and institutional matters.
The inaugural session on Thursday will be attended by Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal. APO directors, advisors, representatives of diplomatic missions from member economies and invited guests are expected to take part. Observers from Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Bhutan, as well as the Global Green Growth Institute, will also participate.
Delegates will hold high-level discussions on the APO Vision 2030 framework, consider the APO’s preliminary budget for the 2027–28 biennium, and review procedures for electing the APO Secretary-General. Key agenda items include the formal inauguration and opening of the 68th Governing Body Meeting; election of the APO Chair and Vice Chairs for 2026–27; and consideration and adoption of the APO Annual and Financial Report.
Deliberations will also cover budget proposals, proposed institutional reforms, a review of progress under APO Vision 2030 and an assessment of Secretariat performance. The governing body is expected to endorse policy and procedural recommendations aimed at strengthening the organisation’s role in productivity enhancement across the Asia–Pacific.
The event will provide space for bilateral and multilateral engagements to foster knowledge exchange and cooperation among member economies. During the inaugural session, awards under the APO National Awards Programme will be presented in the categories of Productivity Advocates and Productivity Technical Experts to recognise outstanding contributors and bolster National Productivity Organizations’ efforts.
Established in 1961, the Asian Productivity Organisation comprises 21 member economies and works to boost productivity for sustainable socio‑economic development through technical cooperation, policy dialogue and knowledge sharing. India’s hosting of the 68th session underlines its commitment to productivity‑led growth, innovation and sustainable development, the ministry’s statement added. — IANS
