Sikkim CM Distributes CMO Benefits: Residents Celebrate Relief
Gangtok — On May 19, 2026, Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang distributed benefits from several Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) schemes to beneficiaries from across Sikkim, including awards, laptops and financial aid. The measures covered the Nar Bahadur Bhandari Fellowship, laptop distribution for students, the Sikkim Garib Aawas Yojana (SGAY) for housing, the Chief Minister’s Self Employment Assistance Scheme (CMSEAS), the Chief Minister’s Education Assistance Scheme (CMEAS), and grants under the Chief Minister’s Discretionary Grant (CMDG).
The package of support aims to reach a wide range of needs: fellowships and education assistance for higher studies, laptops to improve digital access for students, loans and grants to promote self-employment and entrepreneurial ventures, housing assistance under SGAY, and discretionary funding for activities such as farming, book publications, repair and renovation works, and local infrastructure projects. Recipients were drawn from different districts across the state.
“These schemes continue to support and empower the people,” Tamang wrote on Facebook, noting that the assistance helps students, small entrepreneurs and community institutions. He said the grants also strengthen infrastructure, including religious establishments, and back other public welfare initiatives.
State officials said the distributions are part of the CMO’s ongoing effort to boost livelihoods, expand educational and digital opportunities, and improve basic infrastructure throughout Sikkim. The move underscores the government’s stated focus on inclusive development and targeted support for vulnerable and aspiring residents.
