Meghalaya Signs Pact with OPM India for Vital Health Survey

Guwahati: The Meghalaya government has signed an agreement with Oxford Policy Management India and the State Health Systems Resource Centre (SHSRC) Meghalaya to conduct an annual health survey designed to gather comprehensive public-health data for policy planning and to monitor health initiatives across the state.

The pact was finalised in the presence of National Health Mission Meghalaya Mission Director Ramakrishna Chitturi. D. Valerie Laloo signed on behalf of the state health department, while Prabal Vikram Singh represented Oxford Policy Management India, officials said.

Authorities said the programme aims to strengthen evidence-based healthcare by collecting regular, detailed health data from across Meghalaya. By producing continuous public-health statistics rather than relying solely on periodic surveys, officials expect policymakers to receive timelier and more granular information.

The survey data is expected to help identify emerging health issues, reveal inter-district disparities, and more effectively track the performance of welfare and health programmes. Officials added that improved data will enhance accountability by enabling closer monitoring of services and outcomes across different regions.

Timely, location-specific information should also allow departments to deploy resources more efficiently and make better-informed decisions about healthcare infrastructure and service delivery, they said. The collaboration, an official noted, forms part of the administration’s broader efforts to strengthen data-driven governance and institutional monitoring within the public healthcare system.
