Security forces carried out intensive search operations across Manipur over the past two days, arresting two active cadres linked to banned militant outfits and recovering a large cache of arms, ammunition and explosives from multiple locations, officials said. The operations — focused on vulnerable and hill areas — form part of ongoing efforts to curb insurgent activity and seize illegally held weapons, authorities added.
On Saturday, security personnel arrested Laishram Gopen Singh, alias Punshiba (40), an active cadre of the Kangleipak Communist Party (Apunba), from Tentha Mathak Leikai in Thoubal district, police said. Officers recovered a mobile phone, a bag and camouflage clothing, including T-shirts and uniforms, from his possession.
Also on Saturday, a separate search in the Langol hill range under Lamphel Police Station in Imphal West yielded a substantial weapons haul. The recovered items included one INSAS rifle with two magazines, one .303 rifle with a magazine, one single-bore barrel, four bolt-action rifles, 10 pistols with one magazine each, five 38 mm anti-riot rubber shells, one detonator, four empty cartridges and five live rounds of 5.56 mm ammunition, according to officials.
On Friday, security forces arrested another active cadre identified as Huidrom Sunder Singh, alias Sanathoi or Salai (41), associated with KCP (MFL), from Sawombung Khunjao under Lamlai Police Station in Imphal East. A mobile phone was seized during the operation.
In a separate recovery on Friday at Ingel Hill in Tendongyang under Sekmai Police Station in Imphal West, personnel found two single-barrel guns, two .32 pistols, two No. 36 high-explosive grenades and 99 rounds of ammunition of various calibres. Authorities say these coordinated search-and-area-domination efforts are being intensified in hill and other vulnerable zones to disrupt insurgent networks and prevent further circulation of illegal weapons.
