Chief Minister-designate Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday personally inspected final arrangements at the venue, where heightened security and extensive logistical work are underway ahead of the high-profile ceremony.
Speaking to reporters after his site visit, Sarma confirmed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will arrive in Guwahati on the night of May 11 to attend the event as chief guest. “The Prime Minister will arrive in Guwahati tonight. At 11 am tomorrow, the new government of Assam will take oath,” Sarma said, stressing the symbolic importance of the Prime Minister’s presence for the state’s political landscape.
Sarma said several senior NDA leaders are expected to attend the swearing-in, including Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, BJP national president Nitin Nabin, and chief ministers from various NDA-ruled states. Organisers anticipate a large turnout of party workers, supporters and booth-level BJP volunteers from across Assam and the Northeast, which is set to make the Khanapara ground a politically charged gathering.
The chief minister-designate also confirmed that the first Cabinet meeting of the new government will be convened immediately after the oath-taking ceremony. He said implementing the BJP’s election manifesto will be the incoming administration’s top priority, with a focus on governance, development and welfare delivery.
With final preparations intensifying, authorities are balancing crowd management and security at the venue while party leaders ready themselves for a high-stakes public launch of the new state government on May 12.
