Historic Guinness Record: India Unfurls Largest Underwater Flag
India’s Andaman and Nicobar Islands have entered the Guinness World Records after a team of 223 divers unfurled the largest Indian national flag underwater at Radhanagar Beach, organisers said. The operation involved personnel from the Navy, local police and other agencies and has been presented as a demonstration of precision, courage and national pride.
Officials said the coordinated effort to deploy and display the giant tricolour beneath the sea required careful planning and teamwork; organisers registered the achievement with Guinness World Records following the event. The record-setting stunt took place off Radhanagar Beach and was carried out by trained divers representing multiple security and civil agencies.
The Bharatiya Janata Party hailed the feat on X, saying India is “redefining milestones” and praising the Andaman and Nicobar Islands for securing a first-of-its-kind world record. The party’s post linked the accomplishment to national ambition under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership.
Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat described the event on social media, writing: “The largest tricolour unfurled its splendour in the depths of the sea in the Andaman, setting a world record.” Delhi leader Parvesh Sahib Singh called the registration in the Guinness World Records “a moment of pride for every citizen,” adding that the display reflected courage, discipline and dedication-qualities he said highlight the capability of India’s soldiers and youth. Organisers and political leaders framed the achievement as more than a ceremonial record: they said it symbolises coordinated capability and patriotic resolve, while drawing national attention to the Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Radhanagar Beach.
