BJP Triumphs in Dharmanagar & Koridang Bypolls: Decisive Win
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) registered clear victories in two Northeast Assembly bypolls, with Jahar Chakraborti winning the Dharmanagar seat in Tripura and Daochier Imchen prevailing in the Koridang by-election in Nagaland’s Mokokchung district. Chakraborti polled 24,291 votes to take the Dharmanagar seat decisively, while Imchen secured 7,317 votes in Koridang, defeating his nearest rivals by comfortable margins.
In Dharmanagar, the Communist Party of India (Marxist) candidate Amitabha Datta finished second with 6,001 votes and Indian National Congress nominee Chayan Bhattacharya trailed closely with 5,936 votes. Candidates from smaller parties, including Amra Bangalee and SUCI(C), as well as independent contenders, lagged well behind the front-runners. The None of the Above (NOTA) option received 444 votes.
Voter engagement in Dharmanagar remained robust, with turnout recorded at 70.09 percent. Koridang also saw strong participation: independent candidate Toshikaba polled 4,194 votes and the constituency reported a turnout of 75.06 percent.
Taken together, the results underline the BJP’s continued electoral strength in parts of the Northeast, delivering decisive wins in both Tripura and Nagaland while reflecting sustained voter participation in the bypolls.
