Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on May 2 urged officials to fast-track urban development projects, insisting on strict deadlines, high-quality execution and sustained maintenance to ensure services reach citizens effectively. He set the tone for accelerated delivery during a review meeting held in the war room at his official residence, TIFT, where he assessed progress across the Urban Development Department and urban local bodies.
Saha directed the Tripura Urban Development Authority (TUDA) to swiftly complete landmark projects, naming the Junction Gate in Agartala and the Lighthouse Project at the Akhaura border as immediate priorities. He emphasised that visible, on-time deliverables would strengthen public trust in government programmes.
Public health and safety were singled out for urgent attention: Saha prioritised the city hospital project to bolster medical services, ordered rapid rollout of CCTV cameras across urban areas to enhance security and modernisation, and mandated railings on footpaths to protect pedestrians and reduce accident risks.
He also called for faster development of the Gomati riverfront in Udaipur, regular maintenance of existing pump houses and construction of new pump houses where needed to prevent flooding and ensure water management. Saha expressed approval at the near-completion of pink toilets in 20 urban localities and instructed the Agartala Municipal Corporation to ensure environmentally safe placement or recycling of idols after pujas.
Regular door-to-door garbage collection and strengthened solid waste management were emphasised as essential civic services. The meeting reviewed major schemes including the Mukhyamantri Urban Development Project, Satellite Township, AMRUT 2.0, Asian Development Bank‑backed initiatives, the Smart City Mission, city beautification efforts and SASCI, with Saha stressing that timely delivery would reinforce administrative accountability.
Senior officials at the review included Chief Secretary J K Sinha, Urban Development Secretary Milind Ramteke, Finance Secretary Apurba Roy, Agartala Municipal Corporation Commissioner Saju Wahid A, Urban Development Director Megha Jain and TUDA Commissioner Mihir Kanti Gop.
