Shubman Gill Shines: GT Beat RCB in Convincing 4-Wicket Win
Gujarat Titans chased down a 156-run target in clinical fashion to beat Royal Challengers Bengaluru by four wickets in Match 42 of the IPL 2026 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Thursday. GT finished 158 for 6 in 15.5 overs, powered by skipper Shubman Gill’s blistering 43 off 18 balls and Jos Buttler’s 39, while RCB were bowled out for 155 in 19.2 overs.
Gill set the tone early with an aggressive opening over that yielded a four and a six off Bhuvneshwar Kumar. He followed that with a dominant second over against Josh Hazlewood, hitting three fours and two sixes as GT raced to 36 without loss after two overs. Sai Sudharsan showed intent at the other end but fell cheaply to Bhuvneshwar, making just six.
A dropped catch by Jitesh Sharma gave Jos Buttler a life and GT continued to press. Bhuvneshwar finally broke through in the fifth over, with Virat Kohli taking the catch to dismiss Gill for 43. Buttler capitalised on the reprieve and helped GT reach 69 for 2 at the end of the powerplay (first six overs).
Buttler’s innings ended in the eighth over when Bhuvneshwar yorked him for 39 off 19. Washington Sundar and Shahrukh Khan then steadied the chase and nudged GT past the 100-mark, before RCB struck back to remove both in the 11th over. A crucial partnership between Rahul Tewatia and Jason Holder rebuilt the innings; Holder was later dismissed by Suyash Sharma, but Tewatia remained unbeaten on 27 and guided GT home with 25 balls to spare.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar finished as RCB’s most successful bowler in the chase with 3 for 28, while Romario Shepherd claimed two wickets. Their efforts were not enough to defend RCB’s total.
Put into bat, RCB had a mixed start. Mohammed Siraj kept things tight early, but Virat Kohli counter-attacked aggressively against Kagiso Rabada, smashing five consecutive boundaries in a 21-run over. Kohli’s quickfire 28 off 13 added impetus, and Devdutt Padikkal kept the scoring rate healthy, making 40 off 24 to push RCB to 59 for 2 at the powerplay.
RCB’s innings then unravelled. Captain Rajat Patidar fell to Arshad Khan in a catch by Holder that prompted protests from RCB. Holder and Rashid Khan picked up key wickets, and the middle order collapsed to leave RCB 91 for 5. Padikkal’s resistance ended when he was bowled by Rashid. Lower-order contributions were scant; Romario Shepherd made 17 while Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Venkatesh Iyer added small scores before RCB were all out for 155.
Arshad Khan starred for Gujarat with figures of 3 for 22, while Jason Holder (2-29) and Rashid Khan (2-19) supported the attack. Brief scores: Royal Challengers Bengaluru 155 all out in 19.2 overs (Devdutt Padikkal 40, Virat Kohli 28; Arshad Khan 3-22, Rashid Khan 2-19, Jason Holder 2-29) lost to Gujarat Titans 158/6 in 15.5 overs (Shubman Gill 43, Jos Buttler 39; Bhuvneshwar Kumar 3-28, Romario Shepherd 2-30).
