Bayern Director Slams PSG Celebration: Fiery Reaction Sparks Debate

Bayern Munich must overturn a one-goal deficit at the Allianz Arena after a wild first leg of the UEFA Champions League semi-final ended 5-4 in Paris at the Parc des Princes, a result that exposed Bayern to the quality of Paris Saint-Germain while underlining the Bavarians’ resilience. The return leg at home now becomes decisive: Bayern need at least a one-goal swing to level the tie and more to avoid extra time or defeat outright.

The Parc des Princes contest was a high-scoring, back-and-forth affair that at one point looked settled in PSG’s favour — Ousmane Dembélé’s fifth goal made it 5-2 — before Bayern clawed back to narrow the margin. Despite falling short on the night, Bayern showed fight and produced a comeback attempt that many observers praised; the match nevertheless left unanswered questions about defensive stability and game management against elite opposition.

Max Eberl, Bayern’s director of sport, described the fixture to Sky Germany as “grandiose,” adding, “I’ve rarely experienced a game at this level. Compliments to our team,” comments captured by Sky Sports journalist Kerry Hau. Eberl also took aim at PSG’s post-goal celebrations, saying that after the 5-2 moment PSG “celebrated as if they were already in the Budapest final,” a criticism that underlines the psychological edge both clubs are contesting ahead of the rematch.

Eberl stressed Bayern’s belief in the comeback, declaring that “we came back, and now everything is wide open in the return leg. The Allianz Arena is a fortress.” The club’s supporters and home atmosphere will be crucial if Bayern are to overturn the deficit against a PSG side capable of rapid, game-defining swings.

The tie remains finely balanced: Bayern have shown they can score against PSG but must tighten up defensively and convert home advantage into a clearer tactical plan at the Allianz Arena if they are to progress to the final in Budapest. Whether Eberl’s frustration with PSG’s celebrations was warranted or merely motivational will be settled on the pitch in the second leg.
