Two people were seriously injured in a head-on collision between two motorcycles on Zoo Road in Guwahati late on Monday night, April 26, 2026, police said. The crash happened near a petrol pump on a busy stretch of the road that reportedly sees heavy vehicular movement even during late hours.
According to preliminary information, both injured riders were rushed to a nearby private hospital for treatment. Medical sources said one of the victims remains in critical condition.
The incident was caught on a nearby CCTV camera. Traffic police reached the scene soon after the collision, cleared the roadway to restore normal traffic flow and began examining the footage to establish the sequence of events.
Initial findings suggest one motorcycle was being driven on the wrong side of the road and collided with an oncoming bike. The rider alleged to be responsible fled the scene immediately after the crash.
Police have registered a case and launched an investigation. Authorities are using CCTV footage and other leads to identify and trace the absconding rider.
