B.L. Verma Reviews Welfare Schemes in Arunachal Pradesh — Impact
Union Minister B. L. Verma on April 28 said flagship welfare initiatives are delivering tangible improvements in Arunachal Pradesh as he conducted a review of Central schemes in the State. During the visit to Ziro Valley, Verma described the northeastern State as “jannat” (heaven) and highlighted that targeted funding under the Prime Minister’s Development Initiative for the North East Region seeks to balance infrastructure growth with the preservation of the area’s natural and cultural heritage.
Verma carried out on-the-ground assessments of several central programmes, inspecting projects and speaking directly with local residents to gauge impact and implementation. At Pai Gate, he reviewed houses built under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) — the central government’s affordable housing scheme — and evaluated progress on the broader ‘Housing for All’ mission, meeting beneficiaries to hear their feedback.
He later visited a fair price shop in Hong village to examine the functioning of the public distribution system under the National Food Security Act (NFSA), reviewing the delivery of subsidised food grains to eligible households and checking distribution processes at the local level.
Officials said the visit was intended to evaluate implementation gaps and the impact of key welfare schemes in the region, underscoring the Centre’s focus on improving living standards while conserving Arunachal Pradesh’s environmental and cultural assets.
