Record Heatwave in Rajasthan: Barmer, Jaisalmer Hit 46°C
Jaipur, April 27 (IANS) — Rajasthan continued to bake under a severe heatwave on Monday as the Meteorological Department issued alerts for strong winds and light rain in Jaipur, Alwar and adjoining districts, offering limited respite to residents coping with scorching conditions.
Weather officials said maximum temperatures across much of the state remain well above normal, generally ranging between 44°C and 46°C. Barmer recorded the highest temperature in the past 24 hours at 46.4°C, while Jaisalmer followed closely at 46.0°C; Kota and Chittorgarh registered 45.2°C each. Night temperatures have stayed relatively warm, with the lowest minimum reported at Jawai Dam (Pali) at 22.8°C.
Although the heatwave dominates the state, some areas saw brief changes in weather. Gangapur City (Sawai Madhopur) recorded the highest 24‑hour rainfall of 6.0 mm. After intense heat on Sunday, cloud cover developed over Jaisalmer, Bikaner, Ajmer, Bhilwara and Chittorgarh after 4:00 p.m., triggering light rain, drizzle, thunderstorms and dusty, gusty winds in parts of the state.
The Meteorological Department warned that the heatwave is likely to persist with temperatures remaining above normal, but said partial relief is possible during afternoon hours where clouds, light rain and isolated dusty winds occur. A more noticeable break from the heat is forecast between April 28 and April 30, when several districts may experience thunderstorms, more widespread rainfall and isolated hailstorm activity.
