Deputy CM Nemcha Kipgen Pleads for Calm After Ukhrul Violence
Manipur Deputy Chief Minister Nemcha Kipgen has urged a firm stand against violence and appealed for collective action to restore peace and security in the state after retaliatory clashes between armed groups reportedly from Naga and Kuki communities left three people dead in Mullam village in Ukhrul district. In an official statement, the Kuki leader, who represents the Kangpokpi Assembly constituency, called on all communities to exercise utmost restraint and uphold peace.
“Violence does not offer solutions; it only deepens wounds, erodes trust, and stands as a major obstacle to progress, development, and lasting peace,” Kipgen said, adding: “We must reject hatred and retaliation and instead come together in unity to rebuild and move forward.”
Kipgen condemned the assaults, saying the senseless violence unleashed by armed miscreants had devastated homes, destroyed property and left many innocent civilians injured, including women and children. She described such attacks on unarmed villagers as inhumane and a direct assault on the fabric of society.
“I am deeply anguished and unequivocally condemn the brutal and cowardly attack carried out today at Mullam village in Ukhrul district,” she said, extending her deepest solidarity to the victims and affected families in their hour of grief. Kipgen emphasized support for every affected individual, particularly women and children who have borne the brunt of the violence.
The deputy chief minister’s appeal underscores the urgent need for calm and community cooperation to prevent further escalation, protect civilians and allow relief and reconstruction efforts to begin. She urged leaders and citizens across Manipur to set aside vengeance, work toward reconciliation and safeguard the state’s progress and stability.
