Nandre Burger Penalised for IPL Code Breach — Shocking Details
Lucknow, April 23 — Rajasthan Royals left-arm pacer Nandre Burger has been fined 10 percent of his match fees and handed one demerit point for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during his side’s match against Lucknow Super Giants, the IPL said on Thursday. The 30-year-old admitted the offence, which was reported after the Royals beat hosts LSG by 40 runs.
An IPL statement said Burger’s conduct amounted to a Level 1 breach and noted that the Match Referee’s decision in such cases is “final and binding.” The league said the incident involved actions covered under Article 2.5 of the code, “pertaining to using language, actions or gestures which disparage or which could provoke an aggressive reaction from another player in the Match.”
Despite the disciplinary action, Burger contributed on the field as part of a collective bowling performance that helped Rajasthan post a comprehensive 40-run victory over Lucknow. The fine underscores the IPL’s strict stance on maintaining discipline and sportsmanship amid the intensity of top-level T20 competition.
Separately, the tournament bulletin also highlighted a milestone and the day’s fixture: Punjab Kings became the first team to successfully chase 200-plus ten times in T20 cricket, and Royal Challengers Bengaluru face Gujarat Titans tonight at 7:30 pm. (PTI)
