A collection of children’s drawings recovered from the rubble of a bombed school in Minab, Iran, was displayed at the Iranian Embassy in New Delhi this week, offering a quiet, chilling memorial to the young lives lost when the school was destroyed on February 28, 2026 — the day the Iran–US–Israel war began. The exhibition, titled “Minab Children Still Draw the Sun,” ended earlier this week but left visitors with the unsettling contrast between the simple, hopeful images and the tragedy that erased their creators.
The drawings show an ordinary, colorful world: a green-and-blue globe, a yellow school bus in motion, bright birds on a branch beneath blue clouds and a shining sun. What is absent from those scenes are the children themselves — around 160 pupils, aged five to seven, who were killed when the Shajareh Tayyebeh girls’ elementary school was bombed into rubble. The artworks, recovered from buried school bags by Red Crescent teams, were scanned and sent to the Iranian Embassy in New Delhi and to other missions worldwide.
Organizers described the exhibition less as a celebration of artistic talent and more as a collective act of mourning. Visitors viewed the small, fragile sheets as evidence of ordinary childhood interrupted: drawings that once expressed play and innocence now serve as testimony to loss and to the human cost of conflict.
