A court in Sivasagar remanded four youths to judicial custody after their arrest in connection with a cattle theft case, following a late-night joint operation by police and Village Defence Party (VDP) personnel that intercepted them in the Konwerpur area on April 19, 2026.

The arrested men were identified as Samad Ali, Samir Ali, Akib Ali and Riku Ali, all residents of Riria village. They were travelling in a red Santro car bearing registration number AS23F1975 when a patrol team from Sadar police station, assisted by VDP members, stopped the vehicle.

After a daylong interrogation, the four were formally arrested and a case was registered as Case No. 65/2026 on suspicion of their involvement in earlier cattle theft incidents. The police said the arrests followed leads developed during local patrols and community reporting.

The quartet was produced before the court on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, which ordered them remanded to jail custody pending further investigation and legal proceedings.

Local authorities have not released additional details about recovered property or the identities of alleged victims. The case underscores ongoing efforts by local police and VDP units to curb livestock thefts in rural parts of the district.
