
Tragic Suicide of Woman Commando Trainee at Assam Camp – Probe Underway
A woman commando undergoing training at a battalion camp in Baihata Chariali, Assam, allegedly died by suicide on Wednesday, April 22, prompting an official investigation, police said.
The deceased has been identified as Aparna Pandit, a resident of Bokajan in Karbi Anglong district. She was taking part in a training programme at the Commando Battalion camp when the incident occurred.
Preliminary reports indicate Pandit had been under significant mental stress in the days before her death. A note believed to be a suicide note was recovered near the body, but officials have not yet confirmed its contents or established the exact reasons for the incident.
Authorities said Pandit’s body was sent to her hometown for last rites. Police in Baihata Chariali have registered a case and opened an investigation into the circumstances.
Officials added that further details will be released after examination of the recovered note and completion of procedural formalities. The investigation remains ongoing.
