Silchar Dominates Day 1 — Edges Closer to Crucial Lead
Silchar held the upper hand against Bongaigaon at the close of Day 1 of the Nuruddin Senior Inter-District Cricket Tournament at ACA Stadium in Guwahati on Tuesday, needing just 15 more runs to secure a first-innings lead. The visitors were 133 for 5 in their first innings when stumps were drawn, with Subham Mandal unbeaten on 69 and Samik Das 2 not out.
Bongaigaon, sent in to bat, were dismissed for 147 in 56.5 overs. The innings was propped up by half-centuries from Achyut Das (56) and Imran Ahmed (51), but the team lacked broader contributions and was unable to build a larger total.
Rahul Singh was the standout bowler for Silchar, finishing with impressive figures of 4 for 27 to restrict Bongaigaon. In Silchar’s reply, Amit Kumar Yadav added a useful 39, while Abhijit Barman was Bongaigaon’s most effective bowler with 3 for 34.
With play ending on Day 1, Silchar sit in a strong position-just a small task away from a first-innings advantage that could shape the match’s outcome when play resumes.
