– Adopt a hybrid inference strategy: use compact on-device models for latency-critical behaviors and cloud models for periodic retraining and heavy compute tasks like PCG at scale.
– Build governance and safety checks into the pipeline: automated content filters, human-in-the-loop review for emergent storylines, and rollback mechanisms for problematic agent behaviors.
– Choose build vs buy pragmatically: buy pre-trained components for foundational capabilities (pathfinding, voice synthesis, content moderation), build proprietary models where gameplay differentiation depends on learning from your players.
Opportunities for Indian studios and product teams
India’s developer base and creative talent pool make it fertile ground for experiment-driven game studios. However, success will require bridging skill gaps in MLops, real-time systems and game telemetry. Startups should pursue partnerships with cloud providers for credits, invest in small-scale edge inference expertise, and focus on niche IP where procedural worlds and adaptive NPCs can substitute for large content budgets.
