Outrage Unleashed: Minnesota Prosecutors Charge ICE Agent with Assault

An Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent, Gregory Donnell Morgan Jr., faces serious legal repercussions following a road rage incident in Minneapolis. Prosecutors in Minnesota have charged him with two counts of second-degree assault, issuing a nationwide warrant for his arrest. The disturbing event unfolded on February 5, when Morgan allegedly pointed his service weapon at two individuals in another vehicle. This confrontation reportedly occurred as he illegally maneuvered his unmarked SUV onto the shoulder of a highway, attempting to overtake the other car.

Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty addressed the media, highlighting the gravity of Morgan’s actions. She noted that the victims were unaware they were interacting with a federal agent until informed by a state trooper. “There was nothing that they did that justified Mr. Morgan’s actions,” Moriarty emphasized, underlining the danger posed by the agent’s conduct.

This incident follows a highly contentious backdrop of federal immigration enforcement in the Twin Cities, specifically linked to the Trump administration’s Operation Metro Surge. Earlier this year, two U.S. citizens, Renée Good and Alex Pretti, were fatally shot by federal agents, an event that has drawn significant scrutiny and remains under local investigation. According to Moriarty, Morgan is the first federal agent to be charged in connection with the fallout from this operation. “Is it the first case of its kind nationally? We believe it is,” she stated.

The warrant for Morgan’s arrest is a critical development in an ongoing narrative about the conduct of federal agents during immigration enforcement actions. Prosecutors have made it clear that they expect ICE to facilitate Morgan’s surrender, as the warrant will remain active until he is taken into custody. CNBC has reached out to ICE for a comment regarding the case but has yet to receive a response.

This emerging story highlights the complexities and challenges surrounding law enforcement practices, especially amid heightened scrutiny of federal operations related to immigration. As the situation develops, the community is left grappling with questions about accountability and the implications of such aggressive tactics employed by federal agents.
