Manipur Arrests: Two Held in Churachandpur Over Firing on RAF
Security forces on April 15 intercepted a vehicle at Rengkai in Manipur’s Churachandpur district and arrested two men suspected of involvement in an earlier shooting near Sielmat bridge that wounded a Rapid Action Force (RAF) personnel. The operation stemmed from a security sweep in the area, officials said.
The arrested have been identified as Ngamkhomang Haokip, 36, of S. Moldung, and Letminthang Haokip, 38, of Lhangnom village, both in Churachandpur district. Authorities said the two were travelling together when the vehicle was stopped.
A search of the vehicle recovered three mobile phones, and the vehicle itself has been taken into custody for further examination. Officials described the seizure as part of ongoing evidence-gathering efforts tied to the earlier incident.
Preliminary inquiries indicate the duo were allegedly involved in the open firing at Sielmat bridge during which an RAF personnel sustained a bullet injury. No formal charge details were released at the time.
Security officials said a more detailed investigation is underway to establish the suspects’ role and to collect additional evidence. Further updates will be provided as the probe progresses.
