The Mizoram government has extended the enrolment deadline for the Mizoram Universal Health Care Scheme (MUHCS) 2.0 by one month, allowing residents to register for the scheme until May 15, an official from the Health Department said on April 15. The move comes as authorities sought special clearance from the State Election Commission while the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) remains in force ahead of the Aizawl Municipal Corporation elections.
The Health Department requested the extension to ensure that access to healthcare benefits and public welfare services continue uninterrupted during the election period. The State Election Commission granted the request but warned that the extension must not be used for political advantage or as part of any campaign by parties or candidates.
MUHCS 2.0 is the state government’s flagship health programme aimed at expanding affordable and accessible medical services across Mizoram. The scheme is designed to strengthen financial protection against health-related expenses and to broaden overall healthcare coverage for eligible residents.
Officials have urged those who are eligible but have not yet enrolled to take advantage of the additional month. The Health Department said it will continue awareness and facilitation efforts to maximise participation while strictly following the guidelines and restrictions set by the Election Commission.
