Nick Jonas Heads Rom‑Com on Reluctant Fatherhood and Custody Fight
Singer-actor Nick Jonas is set to headline an untitled romantic comedy directed by Ari Sandel, according to reports. The film follows a lifelong bachelor whose routine is upended when he unexpectedly inherits his cousin’s infant child, forcing him to confront sudden parenthood and reshuffle his life. Jonas is also attached to the project as a producer.
The screenplay is written by Tamara Chestna, whose credits include Something from Tiffany’s and Moxie. Chestna’s script charts the lead’s adjustment to fatherhood and the strains on his new stability when the child’s godmother arrives during the holiday season seeking custody-an arrival that ultimately sparks an unexpected romance.
Production will be overseen by Steve Barnett for Monarch Media, with Mark Ross of Lincoln Road Films and Spencer Berman also producing. Beyond casting and crew announcements, the reporting has not yet detailed a production start date, release window or additional cast attached to the rom-com.
The announcement lands amid a busy period for Jonas. He recently premiered his musical dramedy Power Ballad, co-starring Paul Rudd and directed by John Carney, to a positive reception at SXSW; that film is set for release on June 5. Jonas has also signed on to star opposite Kathryn Newton in White Elephant, a holiday horror project under a new partnership between MRC, Radio Silence and Project X.
Jonas is further expected to return as Seaplane in the next Jumanji instalment. Dwayne Johnson has confirmed that production on the film has wrapped and praised the returning ensemble-including Jack Black, Kevin Hart, Karen Gillan and Jonas-highlighting their on-screen chemistry. Johnson also acknowledged contributions from younger cast members Alex Wolff, Madison Iseman, Morgan Turner and Ser’Darius Blain.
With multiple projects spanning rom-com, musical dramedy, horror and franchise blockbusters, Jonas is steadily expanding his screen presence alongside his music career.
