Empowered Girls: Unlocking Unmatched Opportunities in the IT Sector!

At the recent Hindu Education Plus Career Counselling Fair ’26 in Chennai, P. Deiva Sundari, Principal of Easwari Engineering College (part of the SRM Group), addressed the pressing issue of women’s representation in engineering. Speaking at the Chennai Trade Centre in Nandambakkam, she highlighted the proactive steps companies are taking to recruit women engineers, emphasizing the industry’s commitment to fostering diversity.

“Many companies conduct targeted recruitment drives designed specifically for young women,” Deiva Sundari stated, underscoring their efforts to maintain a balanced workforce. She pointed out that while the ideal proportion of women in engineering roles is approximately 30%, the current reality lags significantly at just 12%. This stark contrast reveals ongoing challenges in promoting equal opportunities within the sector.

Deiva Sundari affirmed that the graduates from her institution are not only among the best in their class but are also fully prepared for the demands of the industry. “Our graduates step into the corporate world equipped with the skills and knowledge that employers seek,” she said. This readiness is crucial as the landscape of engineering continues to evolve, necessitating a workforce that is both capable and diverse.

Additionally, the principal noted that companies are not solely relying on women-only recruitment initiatives but are also conducting general campus recruitment drives to attract a wider array of talent. This dual approach enhances opportunities for all graduates while addressing the critical need for increased female representation in engineering roles.

The conversation around gender diversity in engineering is essential, particularly as industries strive to become more inclusive. With more companies acknowledging the importance of diversity, events like The Hindu Education Fair provide a platform to explore these themes and encourage young women to pursue careers in traditionally male-dominated fields.

As we look toward the future, the commitment to elevating the role of women in engineering remains paramount. With the educational sector playing a vital role in preparing young graduates, it’s clear that fostering a diverse workforce is not just an aspiration but an actionable goal that both institutions and companies are increasingly prioritizing.

The insights shared at this event serve as a call to action for educators, employers, and aspiring engineers alike, reinforcing the importance of collaboration in closing the gender gap in engineering. By embracing inclusivity and supporting women in their professional journeys, the engineering sector can pave the way for a more equitable future.

This discourse is crucial for encouraging a new generation of female engineers who are ready to break barriers and contribute significantly to the industry. As these initiatives gain momentum, there is hope for a more balanced workforce that not only reflects societal diversity but also drives innovation and success in engineering fields across the board.

In conclusion, the advancements discussed at the Career Counselling Fair signal a promising shift toward greater inclusivity in engineering-a trend that, if sustained, could fundamentally change the landscape of the industry for years to come.
